Mumford & Sons is all set to take the win with their new album "Prizefighter". Following last year's "Rushmere", their new record is an amazing follow-up to their reflective folk-rock project. This time, their sixth studio LP focuses on vulnerability and honesty as they navigate raw emotions straight from a 'prizefighter'. With key collaboartions from the likes of Chris Stapleton, Gigi Perez, Hozier, and Gracie Abrams, it's an album where their creativity and dynamic abilities as artists powerfully shine.
For this show at the Maine Savings Amphitheater, they'll be joined by special guest Dylan Gosset.
Let's get a closer look as to how "Prizefighter" came to be. While they might have been a band who seemed to take everything seriously, these fellas found comfort and inspiration in letting loose bit by bit.
"We were just like ‘Fuck it!" Marcus shared via Hot Press. "It’s exactly the kind of choice we would have made in 2009. I want to take the art seriously, but we’ve got to take ourselves slightly less seriously."
Sharing how their relationship as a bad had improved, they were definitely in-sync about the choices they made in crafting the new album. "It was a more instinctive record than we’ve made for a long time... we didn’t second-guess our gut choices along the way," Marcus added.
Feeling confident and secure, Prizefighter captures the band's humanity to their core. Embracing their own space and welcoming collaborative efforst with other people, they learned plenty of new things along the way. Coming from a place of inspiration, other musicians' rapid rise made them realize a lot of things about the music they wanted to create.
"So it just feels like a natural thing for us to do, to celebrate the music that we love, and introduce our audience to that – and just be real about what we like," Marcus told Hot Press.
The band was formed in late 2007, and was named after Marcus Mumford, the band's frontman. Ben Lovett shared that the name was intended to create that vibe of an "antiquated family business name." Being a prominent band in the rise of what would be the "West London folk scene". Later on sharing how it's more of a community than a scene, Mumford & Sons' music became quintessential pieces in the genre. Blending indie-rock with folk notes, driven by high-energy instrumentation and banjos, these folks top it off with earnest and relatable lyrics. On stage, they're able to create foot-stomping nights of hard-hitters.
The band's breakthrough came of their full debut album "Sigh No More", driven by their huge hit single "Little Lion Man". It was a track that defied the odds in an era dominated by synth-pop and indie-rock bangers. Mumford & Sons set themselves apart through their banjos and stomping kick drums with infectious choruses. From then on, they became one of the major bands in folk & indie-rock.
Scoring several Billboard Music Awards, Brit Awards, an Echo Music Prize, Americana Music Honors & Awards, and more, they're esteemed trailblazers in the game. With a new album out, it sure is time to rock.
